Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I have always enjoyed going to baseball games whether they are little kids t-ball or major leagues. I even asked to go to a minor league game for my birthday when I was in grade school. It was one of my favorite birthdays prior to having my kids. These birthdays are the bomb.com if I do say so!

My little sister and I have always shared the love of baseball together as well as many other sports. We are always looking for games and events that we can go to together. It at times can be super hard to do that since tickets can be a little pricey.

The Wichita Wingnuts have a promotion, along with the Kwik shop, that they do on Monday nights which make it more affordable for people to attend a game. It is called Dollar day and all general admission tickets are a dollar with the coupon ticket from the Kwik shop. We went this past Monday with all of the kids and it was just as much fun as I remember.

We started the evening off with supper at Golden Corral because it would be quickest and honestly it is because the boys were free. Golden Corral is a buffet restaurant that has so many different choices. I don't always like these type of restaurants and honestly hadn't been to a Golden Corral since the summer before I went to college. The kids did really enjoy it because they were able to have what they wanted at the same time.

As you can tell my monsters choose to have pizza, fries, and Mac n Cheese. Whatever I guess at least they ate. It was not a battle I wanted to fight.

After we ate we headed straight for the ball park...well after we stopped by my sisters house cause the goofball forgot our coupon tickets. Good thing she lives only 5 minutes away.

I just adore how D3 is my sisters biggest fan! He finds a way to be right next to her and make sure he is touching her. He will hold her hand, sit on her lap, or move his chair as close as possible to her while they are eating. She could do nothing wrong in his eyes. I love seeing their relationship grow. We spent 30 minutes looking for the hat he wore because it was hers. He was not about to go to the game without her hat. That is how much he adores her.

It was a perfect evening for their first game. It wasn't too hot. Kansas is known for how hot it can get. As well as the humidity. There was a nice little breeze going on so it made the game a beautiful one.

There wasn't a whole lot of people there so it was perfect for the kiddos. They didn't have to worry about a bunch of people running around to grab fly balls or random drunk people.

Bug actually loved watching the pitcher throw the ball. He was also over it in like 5 seconds but hey that is what happens when you have a toddler.

The kids enjoyed eating popcorn and having an ice cream cone. Popcorn is their favorite but I think the vanilla cones gave it a run for their money.

At one point SJ and D3 were standing about 5 feet away from where we were sitting with their hands straight up in the air. I had no idea what was going on neither did my sister. I asked them what they where doing and SJ looks at me and says "Trying to catch a ball!"

It was in between innings....

They don't understand baseball yet.

My sister of course started cracking up and just shook her head at them. She did tell them that it wasn't that easy.

We ended up walking around the stadium by the fence under the scoreboard in the outfield. There was nobody on that side of the stadium so it was perfect for the kids to be able to run a little bit. It was starting to get pretty late at this point so them staying in one place was most likely not going to happen.

Bug kept pointing at the outfielders while we were by the fence. I am not sure if it was because he enjoyed the game or he just wanted to run in the beautiful green grass. Either way I got a pretty awesome picture from it.

We didn't stay for the whole game but that is okay. When I told SJ we were leaving she asked if it was over. I told her a small white lie because she really didn't know the difference or even pay attention to whether they were still playing. We where in the parking lot when she noticed that the announcer was still talking and she says "Why's he still talking?" My wonderful creative answer was "He is telling everyone goodbye!" Yeah I am probably going to Hades for that answer. As we were pulling out of the parking lot D3 looks at the stadium and said "Bye Baseball!" It was clear as day! If you haven't read my post on his speech you can read about it here so you'll understand why it means so much that those two words were so clear.

I have no idea who won even though I am sure I could look it up. That wasn't what matters. What mattered was that they had the adventure.

I asked the kids when we got home and they were laying in bed what their favorite part of the day was. D3 told me "Wen dat ey catched dat loe all" (When that guy caught the fly ball) SJs answer was when "We got to see that blow up monkey!" Two totally different answers but they are two totally different kids.

D3 is already asking to go with his aunt to another game. I may have to look into when the next game is before he turns 4...I have to pay for his ticket after that.

Before you leave let me know about whether you have taken your children to a game or an event similar. Tell me what your favorite part of it was!

  2. Sweet memories, Kristen! We're getting ready to head up north for an annual lakeside family vacation. Because my older daughter will need to have a job next summer, I know this could be a "last" of sorts. So, I'm planning to savor every minute and take in every tradition. Thanks for sharing, mama! :)

  5. What a lovely post. It is so gorgeous that you can take your children to an event that you and your sister enjoyed so much as children. It sounds like they all had a lovely evening. And that picture of your little man standing by the outfield fence is the cutest. Thanks for linking such a fabulous post to #SundaysStars. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
